The assassination of the President of Ukraine – the scenes of the case
According to Ukraine Security Service Chief Vasil Maliuk, several scenarios were considered. One of them assumed an FPV drone attack, another – a sniper attack. The bomber was to be retired Polish military, recruited decades ago by Russian special services. Maliuk stressed that "the man believed in the Soviet idea" and had for years been carrying out the assassination.
The detention took place as a result of close cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian services. "Our Polish colleagues worked professionally, it was our work with them," said Maliuk. The suspect's task was to "physically remove Zelenski at the airport in Rzeszów"
Latest information
In the course of the investigation, it turned out that SBU had already prevented two attempts to assassinate Zelenski: at the seat of the President in Kiev last year and at the airport in Rzeszów. The exact date of the incident in Poland was not given, but it is known that the case is developmental, and the services do not exclude further arrests.
Since April 2024, the Polish investigation has included Paweł K., who was to collect information about airport security and report it to Russian military intelligence. His actions may have helped plan the assassination of the President of Ukraine. Paul K. was detained, heard charges, and threatened to jail for up to 8 years.
The Ukrainian SBU publicly thanked Polish services for their effective cooperation in countering Russian threats.

In response to dozens of urgent calls and texts, I remind you of a message#ABWApril last year: On 17 April 2024, officers of the Internal Security Agency, acting on the orders of the Mazovia Department of Foreign Affairs of the Department of Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, detained a person suspected of reporting readiness to cooperate with Russian special services. Polish citizen Paweł K. was detained by ABW officers in the Lublin province in connection with the investigation concerning the notification of readiness to act for foreign intelligence against the Republic of Poland, i.e. for an act under Article 130 § 3 of the Criminal Code. With the arrest of the suspect, officers searched his whereabouts where evidence was secured as well as illegally held ammunition. The findings of the investigation show that Paul K. reported readiness to act in favour of the Russian GRU. His tasks included, among others, collecting information about Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport. This was to help, among other things, in Russian special services planning a possible assassination of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski. On 18 April 2024, the District Court for the City of Warsaw applied a precautionary measure to the suspect in the form of a temporary arrest. The conduct of the Internal Security Agency, supervised by the National Prosecutor's Office, shall be carried out in cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities, the SBU and the Public Prosecutor's Office. – Jacek Dobrzyński – Ombudsman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
