Green Room director remembers Patrick Stewart: he rescued our film

Director Jeremy Saulnier paid tribute to Patrick Stewart during a screening of „Green Room” in Los Angeles on Friday, October 30. According to Variety, he admitted that the actor rescued the film when the production was in danger of being shut down.

The tribute came at a screening marking the 10th anniversary of the 2015 thriller. According to Variety and the JoBlo website, the event took place in Los Angeles, and JoBlo points to the Alamo Drafthouse cinema. Saulnier was expected to talk about his next project, „Slayground,” but instead spoke mostly about Stewart.

„He walked into our movie and saved it”

The director recalled that the production was close to being shut down before Stewart joined the project. According to JoBlo, he said: „Patrick Stewart is why I can still make movies”. Variety also quotes his more blunt recollections, in which Saulnier describes the actor as an exceptionally warm person.

An atypical role in his career

In „Green Room,” Stewart played Darcy, the leader of a neo-Nazi group, a role far removed from Captain Picard or Professor X. The film follows a young punk band that witnesses a murder at an isolated club. The production is today counted among the most acclaimed performances of the actor outside „Star Trek” and „X-Men.”

What we know about the actor’s death
