In the latest installment of documents published today on the government website https://www.war.gov/UFO/ There was a sensational report from the technical debriefing of the Apollo 11 crew. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins describe a mysterious "brighter object" that crashed past their spaceship while flying to the moon.
Document Apollo 11 Technical Crew Debriefing of 31 July 1969 (Volumes 1 and 2) was just declassified under President Donald Trump's PURSUE programme. This is another "piece" of UFO/UAP materials that have been going to the public domain since yesterday alongside the FBI files from the 1960s.
Buzz Aldrin (the lunar module pilot) reports directly:
"We saw this one brighter object flying past... It looked like a hollow cylinder... You could look right inside... the shape of an open book. It was really weird."
The crew used a monocular because the object had "showy dimensions". Initially, they speculated that it could be the S-IVB degree of the Saturn V rocket, but the description of the "embroidered cylinder" and "open book" left an impression of something unusual.
Three unusual observations of Apollo 11 crew
The report highlights three specific events:
- Page 6-33 (Tom 1) – The object on the way to the Moon (about 1 day from the target): "The first unusual thing we saw was about 1 day away or something close to the Moon. It had considerable dimensions, so we used a monocular."
- Page 6-37 (Tom 1) – Flashes of light inside the cab: "The other observation I made was gathering gradually... I tried to sleep with the lights out. I noticed what I thought was small flashes inside the cabin, set every few minutes..."
- Page 21-1 (Tom 2) – Bright light source on the way back: "I noticed what seemed to be a pretty bright light source that we initially attributed to a possible laser."
The document does not provide a final explanation or classify these events as "outworld". NASA and the crew treated them as "unordinary observations", but did not report them as a threat.
Background and reactions
This is not the first reports by Apollo astronauts of unusual phenomena, but for the first time such detailed technical debriefing goes to the official, declassified PURSU database. A post on the X platform by @InterstellarUAP account with quotes by Aldrin has spread rapidly and has already collected hundreds of thousands of views with comment: "These are crazy things! We're not alone."
UFO-logists emphasize that the description of the "hollow cylinder" fits the classic relation about objects in the shape of a cylinder or "cigar". Skeptics remind us that in space it is easy to imagine optical illusions, reflectives, or rocket remnants.
The White House and the War Department announce further batches of documents in the coming days. Hundreds of pages are already available on War.gov/UFO/ including yesterday's FBI file on "four-footed beings".
