On 12 August 2026 Polish residents will witness a rare and spectacular phenomenon – a very deep eclipse of the partial Sun. Just before sundown, the moon will cover as much as 80-85% of its shield, making it noticeably darker in the middle of the day.
Media They describe the event as a "sun failure" and you predict that in some regions of the country it will be really impressive. The phenomenon will be part of an unusual series of three solar eclipses between 2026 and 2028.
When and how will it look in Poland?
- Date: 12 August 2026 (Wednesday)
- Time: The eclipse will begin at about 19:10–19:20 and the maximum will be about an hour 20:00–20:05. The end of approx. 20:30–20:40 (depending on the region).
- Shield cover:
- It will be best seen in western and northern Poland (even 82-85% in Warsaw and surrounding areas).
- In the south-east slightly less – about 40–60%.
The sun will be partially eclipsed, giving the sky an apocalyptic, orange-red shade.
Record series of eclipses 2026–2028
Media industry highlights that this is not a one-time event. In 2027, we are waiting total solar eclipse, during which in the belt of totality (e.g. in Spain, North Africa and the Middle East) true darkness will fall on 6 minutes and 20 seconds – this is one of the longest times in this century. In Poland there will also be a deep partial eclipse.
In 2028, the series will end with a ring eclipse (the effect of a "fire ring").
Important Warning
Never look directly at the Sun without special eyeglasses to observe eclipses or welding filter No. 14! Even at 80–90% of UV and infrared cover can permanently damage your vision.
Doctors and astronomers call for caution – simple sunglasses are not enough.
This will be one of the most interesting astronomical phenomena of recent years in our country. Many experts encourage you to go outside and observe (safely!) is an unusual spectacle.
