Maximum Fuel Prices for Tuesday: Another Cut, Diesel Back Under PLN 8

The Minister of Energy has set maximum fuel prices for Tuesday, October 20: Pb95 petrol at PLN 6.79 per litre, Pb98 at PLN 7.56, and diesel at PLN 7.97. All three limits are lower than those in force from Saturday to Monday.

The new rates come from the Minister of Energy’s announcement of Monday, October 19, published in the Monitor Polski official gazette under the “Lower Fuel Prices” (CPN) programme. The limits include VAT and apply at all stations in Poland. According to rp.pl, the net price is PLN 6.29 (Pb95), PLN 7 (Pb98) and PLN 7.38 (diesel), respectively.

How Much Cheaper Than at the Weekend

From Saturday, October 17, to Monday, October 19, the limits were: PLN 6.89 for Pb95, PLN 7.68 for Pb98 and PLN 8.00 for diesel. This means a drop of 10 groszy per litre of Pb95, 12 groszy for Pb98 and 3 groszy for diesel. The government has therefore pushed the diesel limit below the psychological threshold of PLN 8.

According to available data, the Pb95 limit has fallen for the fourth time in a row, and the diesel limit for the third time in a row (information from rp.pl). For comparison: on Thursday, October 15, the Pb95 limit was PLN 7.01 and diesel PLN 8.05, as we reported in our article on maximum prices for Thursday. Over the week, the Pb95 limit therefore fell by 22 groszy, and diesel by 8 groszy. A week earlier, for Tuesday, October 13, the Pb95 limit was PLN 7.06 and diesel PLN 8.02.

How the Mechanism Works

The maximum price is an upper limit: stations may sell cheaper, but not more expensive. Stations that exceed the limit face a fine of up to PLN 1 million (according to “Tygodnik Solidarność”). New limits take effect on the day after publication in Monitor Polski, and on weekends and holidays the price announced on the last working day applies.

The third phase of the CPN package has been in effect since the beginning of October and will run until the end of 2026. It reduced VAT on fuel from 23% to 8% and excise duty to the lowest level permitted in the EU, and also reinstated maximum prices, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported. The first edition of the programme launched at the end of March, when oil was rising due to the war between the USA, Israel and Iran. According to government estimates, the package may cost around PLN 5 billion.

What It Means for Drivers

Filling a 50-litre tank at maximum prices will cost at most PLN 339.50 for Pb95 petrol, PLN 378 for Pb98 and PLN 398.50 for diesel. Compared with the weekend limits, the maximum saving is PLN 5 on a full tank of Pb95 and PLN 1.50 on diesel. Actual prices at stations may be lower than the limits.

The minister is expected to publish the next announcement, setting prices for Wednesday, October 21, on Tuesday.
