What is WIBOR? Short explanation
WIBOR stands for "Warsaw Interbank Offered Rate", in other words, the interest rates that banks offer each other for loans. This is not an invention, but a specific number determined daily on the basis of actual bank offers. Poland The Stock Exchange (GPW Benchmark) counts this average and publishes it for the whole of Poland. Commercial banks then use this rate as a starting point to calculate interest for their customers – i.e. for us, ordinary Poles who are borrowing mortgages or leasings.
In practice WIBOR is just a number that shows how expensive it costs to borrow money on the Polish financial market. The higher WIBOR, the more expensive loans and leases for ordinary citizens.
