Trade ban on Sunday — What's worth knowing?
The ban on trade on Sunday has been in force in Poland since March 2018 and has been introduced gradually, until the full restriction of trade on most Sundays. Each year, the legislator designates a certain number of commercial Sundays — in 2026 there are a total of 10, spread throughout the year. Shops exempted from the ban include fuel stations, pharmacies, shops at airports and railway stations, bakeries, pastry shops, ice-cream shops, as well as online shops that operate without restrictions throughout the year. Importantly, the ban does not apply to establishments where the owner is behind the counter and does not employ employees for trade — Although in practice such places are less and less in large cities.
It is worth to follow the calendar of commercial Sundays especially before long weekends and holidays, because it is then that shopping is planned in the most advance. Trade Sunday is then a real convenience for millions of Poles.
