Trade ban on Sunday – what is worth knowing?

The ban on trade on Sunday has been in force in Poland since March 2018 and has been gradually tightened for years. Today most Sundays in the year are days when large shops, hypermarkets, discounts and shopping malls remain closed. However, the Act provides for exceptions — Among other things, fuel stations, pharmacies, airport shops, railway and bus stations, as well as bakeries and shops run by the owner personally without hiring employees are exempted. Online shops operate without restrictions all year round — you can order online even on a non-commercial Sunday, although delivery can only be made on the next working day. Every year, the Sejm or the relevant provisions shall set a specific number of business Sundays — in 2026 there are exactly 10 of them distributed evenly throughout the year, with a clear density in the pre-Christmas period in December.
