Dramatic attack on UW campus
Wednesday evening, May 7, 2025, there was a brutal murder at the University of Warsaw. A 53-year-old doorman was attacked by an axe by a young man. Unfortunately, a woman died on the scene from multiple head injuries. A college guard was also severely injured in the attack, who tried to help her.
Who was the murderer at UW?
Według oficjalnych informacji, sprawcą był 22-letni Polak Mieszko R. pochodzący z Gdyni, student trzeciego roku prawa na UW. Mężczyzna nie był mieszkańcem Warszawy i nie stawiał oporu podczas zatrzymania. Po ataku nie próbował uciekać – z siekierą w ręku spokojnie czekał na przyjazd policji. Według relacji świadków i nieoficjalnych doniesień, sprawca sprawiał wrażenie osoby oderwanej od rzeczywistości. Police pobrała mu krew do badań na obecność środków odurzających.
What do we know about motives?
Motywy działania sprawcy pozostają nieznane. Mężczyzna nie został jeszcze przesłuchany, a D.A. zapowiada, że więcej informacji pojawi się po zakończeniu pierwszych czynności śledczych. Według władz uczelni, student nie wyróżniał się wcześniej w żaden sposób – był postrzegany jako dobry uczeń i student.
Victim – doorman and mother of three children
Ofiarą była 53-letnia portierka, pracująca w jednym z budynków UW. Kobieta miała męża i trójkę children. Zginęła podczas zamykania drzwi do Auditorium Maximum, broniąc się przed napastnikiem. Jej death wstrząsnęła całą społecznością akademicką. Rektor uczelni zapewnił, że rodzina zmarłej otrzyma wszelką możliwą pomoc.
The role of Adam Bodnar and SOP
At the time of the attack on campus, Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar was present. Due to his presence at the university, there were also state security officers (SOP). It was one of the SOP officers who was involved in overpowering the perpetrator just after the incident. Adam Bodnar was not directly threatened – at the time of the attack he was on another part of the campus.
