Tragedy in a tower on Widzew: the woman's body burned in an elevator!

In one of the Łódź skyscrapers in Widzew, residents suffered a shock. They found a woman's charred body in the elevator. What caused this gruesome incident?

Circumstance

Police and fire department intervened on Friday afternoon in a block at Bartok Street in Widzew. Resident called the service after opening the elevator – came across Burnt female body. The fire was put out quickly, but the damage was huge.

According to RMF FM's findings, the elevator stopped between floors. There was a fire in the cabin, and the smoke filled the whole shaft. Nobody else was hurt – residents evacuated in time.

Service response and investigation

Firemen from Łódź PSP used foam and water to dampen the flames. The police secured the place, and the D.A. opened an investigation.

  • First findings: The corpse belongs to a woman about 40-50 years old; identity unknown.
  • Hypotheses: The fire may have caused an electrical malfunction or an object in the elevator. The arson was ruled out for now.
  • Investigations: The body was dissected at the Department of Judicial Medicine.

Kom. Joanna Szczęsna of the Łódź police department confirmed: "We are calling for peace. The investigation continues"

What are the witnesses saying?

The resident who found the body described the scene as "a nightmare". Others heard the crackles and felt the burning smell. One of them compared it to "hell in a metal can."

Towers in Widzew, built in the 1970s, often have old elevators. This is not the first such accident – in 2024 in a similar block the installation sparked, causing the evacuation of 200 people.
