Donbas in Ukraine became a place of tragedy again. On the Day of the Polish Army the Polish volunteer fighting the Russian occupier died.
Drama of the Polish Volunteer
On the Polish Army Day, which commemorates the historic victory of 1920, a tragic message reached Poland. A citizen of Lublin Voivodeship, fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian National Guard, died. The information was provided by the family and the editor of WarNewsPL, while asking not to disclose the deceased's identity and the unit's number.
Unfortunately, our editorial board must report on the tragic news from Donbas. On the Day of the Polish Army, a day commemorating the victory in the Battle of Warsaw, another Pole died. In the fight against the Russian occupier in the pokrowska region, a resident of Lublin Voivodeship died, serving as a volunteer in one of the units of the National Guard of Ukraine. Family was informed of the loss yesterday. At her request, we do not disclose personal data or the number of the deceased. According to our information, our consular services are cooperating with the Ukrainian side on bringing the deceased to the country. Unfortunately, it may be difficult because a volunteer fell on a fragment of no man's land. Eternal honour and glory – WarNewsPL on the X portal (formerly twitter).
Donbas – land without mercy
Donbas is a region where the fight against the Russian occupier continues continuously. The pokrowska area, now half surrounded by Russian troops, became an epicentre of tragedy. The city no longer offers any safe roads. According to analysts, the situation is becoming more and more catastrophic every hour – communication is difficult and individuals are struggling with lack of equipment and support.
Poles on the front
The Polish volunteer who died in Donbasa was not the only countryman supporting Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor. Going to Ukraine often means fighting at your own risk, in difficult, extreme conditions that are hard to imagine sitting in a safe house.
Risk and Sacrifice
- Polish volunteers usually serve as soldiers of volunteer units, sometimes within the structures of the National Guard of Ukraine, where light infantry formations are created.
- They remain anonymous not only for security reasons, but also for respect for their loved ones.
- Combat operations often take place in "no one's land" areas, where access to wounded or fallen can be severely restricted.
The tragedy that happened in Donbasa shows the scale of individual courage and dedication outside politics and state borders. It encourages reflection on how big the role of volunteers is – often anonymous and yet irreplaceable where every help and every human life counts.
