The Minister of Energy issued a notice with maximum fuel prices for Tuesday, 13 October: a litre of 95-octane petrol may cost no more than PLN 7.06, and 98-octane petrol PLN 7.95. Diesel will be slightly cheaper than on Monday and will not exceed PLN 8.02 per litre.
The new limits follow Monday’s notice from the Minister of Energy. As reported by RMF FM and Forsal.pl, these are maximum prices, meaning upper limits that petrol stations may not exceed. They may sell for less.
Comparison with Monday
On Monday, 12 October, the limits were: PLN 6.97 per litre for 95-octane petrol, PLN 7.85 for 98-octane petrol and PLN 8.06 for diesel. This means that on Tuesday:
- 95-octane petrol: PLN 7.06, which is 9 grosze more,
- 98-octane petrol: PLN 7.95, which is 10 grosze more,
- diesel: PLN 8.02, which is 4 grosze less.
The petrol limit is therefore higher again, while diesel, though still above PLN 8, is getting slightly cheaper.
How the mechanism works
The Ministry of Energy publishes notices with maximum fuel prices every day. The next one, setting prices for Wednesday, 14 October, is due to be published on Tuesday.
What it means
Drivers of petrol cars should expect that, with a full 50-litre tank, the upper limit for the cost of 95-octane petrol will rise by about PLN 4.50 compared with Monday. For 50 litres of diesel, the limit will be about PLN 2 lower. Actual prices at stations may be below the limit, so it is worth comparing prices in your area before refuelling.
