This year's celebration of May 3 again became an opportunity for important speeches and hot comments. Politicians and commentators not only stressed the historical importance of the Constitution, but also addressed contemporary challenges facing Poland.
During the ceremony at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, President Andrzej Duda gave his last big speech in this term, appealing to Poles for responsibility for the future of the country and unity beyond divisions. Prime Minister Donald Tusk spared no criticism of the head of state, highlighting the importance of real adherence to the Constitution, not just its symbolic celebration. In turn, former prime ministers and opposition leaders, such as Mateusz Morawiecki, reminded that the Constitution of 3 May was evidence of Poles' ability to overtake the era and build a modern state. Many experts and publicists have reflected on the need for dialogue and the overcoming of political divisions, which, as they note, have been significantly deepened in recent years.
This year's comments to May 3 show how strongly politics, tradition and contemporary challenges penetrate the Polish public debate.
