On Sunday, July 26, there was a serious technical failure at Reda Aquapark. The technician misfired the chemicals, separated the chlorine, and over 400 people had to leave the facility. Unfortunately, some fish from the aquarium, including sharks, did not survive.
What exactly happened at Red's Aquapark?
The call was received by the fire department before 7:00 p.m. In the technical room, the technician unconsciously added sulfuric acid to the sodium hypochlorite tank. This substance is used to treat pool water. The chemical reaction caused the secretion of chlorine.
Several guards, including a specialized chemical rescue group, appeared on the site. More than 400 guests and employees were evacuated. The technician suffered inhalation poisoning and went to the hospital. Later, a few firefighters also felt slight symptoms.
How did the accident affect the animals?
The Reda Aquapark Board issued an announcement on 27 July. He admitted that the effects of the incident affected aquatic animals in the aquarium. Some fish, including sharks that are one of the main attractions, did not survive. Despite the immediate actions of the team and specialists, they were unable to be saved.
Other animals in the object, including reptiles, are healthy. The failure did not affect the water in the pools available to guests. The water park opened the next day.
The exact causes are being determined. Aquapark cooperates with all departments and conducts audits of technical systems and animal safety procedures. Additional safeguards were announced to reduce the risk of a similar event in the future.
The Management Board stressed that it treats the matter with the highest seriousness and deeply regrets the loss of animals.
