Amazon will release 30,000 office workers by email tomorrow

Amazon has announced the biggest layoffs in years – 30,000 people will lose their jobs in different countries, and the company actually accelerates automation and introduces robots. The shock on the labour market becomes a fact.

A wave of layoffs in Amazon – why this decision?

Amazon has just confirmed the plan to release as many as 30,000 employees from corporate departments – this is almost 10% of the company's office staff worldwide. The decision is mainly due to pressure to reduce costs after the pandemic and to the express expansion of automation.

For years, the company employed crowds – not only in offices, but also logistics or warehouses. Now that artificial intelligence and automation come to the fore, even giants are forced to restructure. As industry analysts emphasize, this is the largest wave of layoffs since loud cuts in the years 2022-2023.

Which countries and departments are most at risk?

Who will suffer the most?

The cuts concern mainly office employees (corporate), i.e. technology specialists, HR, project management or business operations. The most affected will be:

  • HR (People Experience and Technology Group) – as many as 15% of jobs can be eliminated
  • Devices & Services
  • Operations and logistics
  • Communication, Alexa and podcasting

Geographical breakdown

According to Reuters and Forbes, the exemptions relate primarily to the United States – Amazon headquarters and major technology hubs of the company. However, restructuring will also cover Europe and selected offices in other countries – details are to be published locally depending on the division and the country.

Amazon plans to release around 10% of its employees

~30,000 layoffs would be the largest wave of layoffs in Amazon since 2022.

When are the layoffs gonna start?

Releases in Amazon are scheduled to start as early as Tuesday, October 28, 2025.. Workers from the endangered departments will receive email information the same morning, as confirmed independently Reuters, CNBC and other industry media. According to reports, managers already received special training on Monday from communication on dismissals and are prepared to report to the teams immediately after the announcement.

The decision on a rapid deadline makes this change practically overnight for thousands of people, which highlights the scale and dynamics of Amazon's operations in the context of automation and cost cuts.

Why is Amazon betting on robotics?

Amazon announced several years ago that much of the office and warehouse tasks would be entrusted with artificial intelligence and robots. Leaki from internal documents talk about the plan to replace up to 600,000 jobs with robots by 2033 – and only in the US.

An example? In the modern warehouse hall in Louisiana, 25% of the crew are automatic, and in Georgia the number of robots is about to double. Amazon claims that AI and machines will accelerate delivery, improve service quality and reduce costs by up to $12 billion per year.

It's a bit like replacing horses with cars in the 19th century – a change inevitable, though painful for those who lose their jobs.

Is this just the beginning? What about the employees?

CEO Andy Jassy warned as early as June that anyone who does not develop the skills of working with AI would have to face the risk of losing his job. However, Amazon ensures that it will continue to employ thousands of warehouse workers during the holiday period (about 250,000 seasonal jobs in 2025). Checks and support programmes for the released are to be similar to those of previous years.

Symbol of changes in the labour market

Releases in Amazon are not only a blow to 30,000 families in the world, but also a clear signal – technology companies will continue to automate and jobs are constantly changing. For many people, this trend is a challenge – time to develop new competences, because the era of robots is closer than we think.
