On Saturday morning, the world ran a sensational news: Donald Trump announces a full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Did the American president actually end one of the most dangerous wars of the 21st century?
India-Pakistan's latest conflict chapter
Recent weeks have brought a violent escalation of tensions on the India–Pakistan line. After the tragic assassination in Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed, India blamed Pakistan and conducted a retaliatory operation. In response, Islamabad hit Indian military bases, threatening to slip out of control and the real risk of war between the two atomic powers.
Trump as a mediator – did the US end the conflict?
On Saturday, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social:
"After a long night of talks, I am pleased to inform you that India and Pakistan have agreed to the full and still-still suspension of the weapon. Congratulations to both countries for reason and intelligence!"
According to American and Pakistani sources, it was the USA – with Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the head – that played a key role in mediation. Vice President JD Vance and representatives of Saudi Arabia and Turkey were also involved in the negotiations.
Over the past 48 hours,@VPVance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit...
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire and stressed that Pakistan "always sought peace and security in the region".
Pakistan and India have agreed to a releasefire with an impressive effect. Pakistan has always gone for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the other hand, indicated that the talks were "directly" between the parties, although it did not deny the role of the US as a catalyst for deescalation.
.@MEAndiaannounce that stoppage of firing & military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries.
The Pak DGMO initiated the call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understood received.

Breakthrough or just a truce?
The ceasefire came into effect Saturday at 5:00 local time. Both parties have committed to halt all military activities on land, sea and air. Further military talks were also set up for Monday, and according to the US, broad negotiations are scheduled to take place in a neutral place.
What's next? Possible scenarios
Persistent peace – if the talks work, it could be the beginning of a new chapter in Indian-Pakistan relations.
Fragile truce – history knows cases when similar agreements quickly collapsed under the pressure of subsequent incidents.
The rise in the role of the US – the success of Trump mediation can strengthen Washington's position as a global peacemaker.
Great work from the President’s team, especially Secretary Rubio.
And my gratitude to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their hard work and willingness to engage in this casefire.https://t.co/ddDzFMAT3H
Did Donald Trump actually end the war between India and Pakistan? He certainly played an important role in stopping the spiral of violence and in bringing about a ceasefire. However, as the history of the region shows, real peace requires more than just one signature – this is only the beginning of the road.
