Donald Trump said at a rally in Arizona that in the war with Iran he “may have gone too far” because, as he put it, there is no one left to negotiate with. The remarks were made on Wednesday, October 15, in Bullhead City.
According to American media reports, Trump said during a speech lasting nearly two hours that Iran “has no army” and that its navy, air force, radars and air defenses had been destroyed. He added that the country’s leaders had also been eliminated. As quoted by Yahoo News, the president said: “That’s one of the problems. I may have gone too far. I don’t know who the hell we’re going to be dealing with”.
According to ANI, citing Fox News, Trump asked the rally attendees who would want to become president of Iran, then said he would not want to himself and that he “probably went a little too far”. The word “sorry” was also used, which media outlets interpret more as a rhetorical phrase than a formal apology.
Context: the campaign ahead of the elections
The rally is part of a 30-day series of Trump’s appearances ahead of the November midterm elections. Yahoo News writes that the war with Iran is unpopular in the US and, in polls, ranks among the most important issues for voters alongside the cost of living and healthcare. Trump, however, has presented the operation as a success, speaking of the elimination of the first and second tiers of Iran’s command.
What is not known
The remarks were made in an improvised speech and are not an official White House statement. They do not signal a change in policy toward Iran or an offer of talks. As of publication, we have not found any reaction from Tehran or the White House to these words. There are no recent posts by the president on Truth Social on this topic.
What it means
For readers in Poland, this is primarily a signal from the American campaign: Trump is defending the war as a military success while publicly pointing to the problem of having no partner on the Iranian side. The conflict affects oil markets and security in the region, and therefore indirectly fuel prices. However, the rally remark itself is not a decision that would change anything.
