Energy transformation of Poland again in the foreground. The Citizens' Platform puts a strong question to voters.
The choice between green energy and traditional raw materials divides Poles again. The Citizens' Platform provokes a question that leaves no one indifferent.
Citizens' Platform

PO has published on social media graphics with a clear message –"renewable energy sources and cheaper electricity" (signed by Donald Tusk) versus "Russian raw materials" (with the image of President Karol Nawrocki). This is an answer to the President's last veto against the Windmill Act, which was to accelerate the development of wind energy in Poland.
What was the dispute?
- President Karol Nawrocki vetoed a bill to facilitate the development of wind turbines.
- Donald Tusk convinces that the president's veto is higher current prices today and in the future because it blocks the development of RES and cheap electricity.
- PO suggests that the alternative to green energy development is to return to imports of raw materials from Russia.
RES against the background of Europe
In June 2025.renewable energy sources first generated more electricity than coal – until 44,1% electricity came from RES and the share of coal fell to 43.7%. Photovoltaics and windmills grow most:
- Power installed RES at the end of June 2025: 35.7 GW (by 16.5% more than the year before).
- The largest share is photovoltaics – close to 23 GW (64.4% of all RES).
- In June alone, more than 9,000 new RES installations arrived, mainly photovoltaic panels.
Is Poland still using Russian raw materials?
Since 2024 Poland has practically no longer imported Russian gas or coal. A decade ago, in 2015, Russian gas wasover halfimports, today this share is 0%.The main sources of raw materials are currently Saudi Arabia, Norway and the USA.
- In 2024 the share of Russian raw materials in the Polish energy mix was 0%.
- Coal and gas from Russia replaced deliveries from Norway and the national RES sector.
- However, Poland still pays a lot for imports of fossil fuels: in 2024 it was over PLN 112 billion, but only a minimum part of this amount concerned final deliveries from Russia.
What does the president's veto mean for electricity bills?
According to the government, stopping the Windmills Act may mean higher energy prices – it blocks the further expansion of RES, which today is the cheapest source of new energy. On the other hand, PO opponents indicate that all RES cannot be built at the expense of energy security and stability of the system.
