A violent crime shook public opinion in Bogota. The body of a 36-year-old Colombian model and influencer Natalia Villalby was found on June 22, 2026 in an exclusive Morph Chico apartment. The women's corpse was brutally stuffed in a suitcase, in a bathroom on the seventh floor.
According to the prosecution's findings, a 46-year-old British citizen, a doctor, entered the apartment Matthew Foster-Smith. He was supposed to attack and beat the model and then strangle her. After the killing, he tried to cover his tracks, including taking his sheets to the laundry – after which he fled Colombia. He crossed the border with Ecuador across the Rumichaca Bridge.
Arrest of the perpetrator
Foster-Smith was detained on June 27 at Quito Airport (the capital of Ecuador) as he attempted to return to London. The action was attended by Bogotá police, Interpol, Ecuadorian migration services and British Dorset police.
Bogota Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán wrote on X: "In Bogotá, if you commit a crime, you pay the price".
He's facing severe punishment.
The doctor may hear the charge. Qualified killing of a woman (aggravated femicide). Colombia is facing punishment from 40 to 50 years in prison. In addition, he may be responsible for destroying and concealing evidence.
The Attorney General of Colombia announces that she will seek extradition and judging a man at the scene.
