Friday afternoon there were explosions over Haifa, which became another signal for its inhabitants that the war would not let go. Iran launched approximately 20 ballistic missiles towards Israel, some of which hit buildings in the center of the city. It is the largest since the beginning of the week of the volley, which took place after earlier attacks on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
At least 30 people were injured in Haifa. Some victims went to the hospitals of Rambam and Bnei Zion, where doctors fight for their health and life.
Iron dome less and less effective
Israeli air defense systems, with the so-called iron dome at the head, for years have been synonymous with security. But now even the most modern technologies no longer offer 100% protection. According to the latest reports, approximately 65% of Iranian missiles have been intercepted in the last 24 hours. That's a lot, but it's not enough for the residents to sleep peacefully. Especially since some of the rockets that run through the system hit densely populated districts, causing casualties and destruction.
Experts emphasize that the iron dome was designed primarily to fight short, slower missiles – such as those used by Hamas or Hezbollah. Against Iranian ballistic missiles, which are faster and harder to intercept, the system is doing worse. As a result, any further attack from Iran is not only a test for Israeli defenders, but also a signal that conflict may get out of control.

Trump still doesn't join the war
At the same time, when missiles explode over Haifa, there is an alarming silence in Washington DC. President Donald Trump, who threatened Iran a month ago with consequences, now declares that he will not make a decision to involve the United States in the war for at least two weeks. The White House explains this with the need for negotiation, but in practice this means that Israel remains alone with Iranian pressure.
Trump, although previously supported Israel and moved military support to the region, now does not want to risk escalation. His hesitations are seen among allies. France, Germany and Britain are trying to come up with a joint diplomatic proposal to stop the spiral of violence. However, talks do not bring a breakthrough.
What about Haifa and the Iron Dome?
The attack on Haifa is further proof that the war between Israel and Iran is no longer just a sporadic exchange of blows, but a creeping conflict that affects civilians. The iron dome, although still effective, is no longer impenetrable.
The inhabitants of Haifa and other Israeli cities must count on the fact that further missiles can hit their homes.
In this situation, Israel cannot count on rapid support from the United States. Trump, although he describes himself as "a mediator of peace", still did not decide whether to join the war. Meanwhile, the wounded are being evacuated in Haifa, and doctors are working under time pressure. It is no longer just a war of politicians and generals – it is a war that touches ordinary people.
