🇬🇷 Greece – Holidays in the Islands and Permanent Land
Greece still reigns in rankings of the most popular holiday destinations of Poles. The warm, crystalline Aegean Sea, the white-blue Santorini architecture, the beaches of Crete and Rhodes, and the rich ancient history attract millions of tourists every year. The season lasts from May to October, although July and August are the hottest (to 35°C) and the most expensive.
Most popular Greek islands for Poles
- Crete – the largest island, rich hotel offer (including all inclusive), excellent for families with children.
- Rhodes – great beaches, very well developed tourist infrastructure, direct flights from Warsaw and Katowice.
- Corfu – green, Venetian climates, ideal for couples looking for climatic places.
- Santorini – fairytale views, romantic atmosphere, higher price standard.
- Zakynthos – famous Shipwreck beach, popular among younger tourists.
When is the best time to go to Greece?
The optimal time is June and September – temperatures are pleasant (28–32°C), the crowds are smaller than in August, and prices are significantly lower. For families with children of school age July is a necessity, then it is worth to book a minimum of 4–6 months earlier. Last minute offers to Greece occur in May and October.
What is worth knowing before leaving?
- A visa is not required for EU citizens – a personal ID is sufficient.
- Currency: euro. Cards accepted almost everywhere, but cash will be useful in small taverns.
- Tourist insurance is mandatory when purchasing a package – ECUZ card is a minimum, but not enough for water sports.
- Water from tap is usually not suitable for drinking – buy bottled or filtered.
