Who was Preston Davey?
Preston was born in June 2022. He was already in foster care as a newborn because his biological mother, Sarah Davey, had serious legal problems. In April 2023, at the age of 9 months, the boy was placed with a couple from Blackpool: Jamie Varley (37 years old, teacher) and John McGowan-Fazakerley (32 years old). It was supposed to be the beginning of a new, better life.
According to foster witnesses, Preston was a happy, cheerful and healthy little guy. Unfortunately, in just four months in his new home, his life became a nightmare.
Four months of hell
Preston Crown Court court heard some shocking evidence. Medical experts found in Preston about 40 injuries, both external and internal. These were bruises, broken hands, internal injuries, and evidence of sexual violence.

Judgment and reactions
On June 15, 2026, Jamie Varley was declared guilty of murder, multiple child sexual abuse, abuse and possession and distribution of abuse material. His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, is responsible for causing or allowing death child abuse and sexual assault. Sentences are due in the coming days.
Police and D.A. stress that this is one of the most tragic cases they have encountered. Detectives talked about "reign of terror" – four months of terror against a helpless child.
