On the second day of Christmas, when most Poles were resting in the family group, intensive diplomacy continued in the Presidential Palace. President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki held another telephone conversation with the President of the United States Donald Trump. This event, announced on the official account of the President's Chancellery on the X platform. What exactly were the leaders discussing, and why can this conversation be of crucial importance for the future of Polish-American relations?
According to a message published on the @presidentpl profile, the conversation began with warm Christmas wishes. The presidents congratulated each other on Christmas, which gave the meeting a personal and cordial tone. However, they quickly moved on to global matters. The main theme was transatlantic relations, with a particular focus on security in the Eastern Europe region. In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation, leaders discussed progress in the peace agreements. It is not accidental – Poland has been one of Ukraine's key allies for years, and the United States under Trump's leadership strives to quickly end the conflict.
There were also talks about the economy and energy. The presidents raised the question of Poland's participation in the work of the G20, which underlines the growing importance of our country on the international stage. Polish-American economic cooperation, including energy projects that can strengthen Europe's energy independence from Russian raw materials, was also discussed. The Communication underlines that the whole conversation took place in a "warm and cordial atmosphere", which suggests good personal relations between Nawrocki and Trump.
This conversation is not the first between Nawrock and Trump. Earlier reports from September 2025 point to discussions about violations of Polish airspace by Russian drones, which shows the continuity of dialogue. In the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and changes in US policy after Trump's return to the White House, such contacts may affect the development of new security architecture in Europe. Experts emphasise that Poland, as a member of NATO and G20, plays an increasingly important role in these negotiations.
