Children in Gaza learn to slaughter halos on cardboard sheep. A controversial video is spinning on the network

Social media is rapidly spreading video from workshops for children in Gaza. The little ones take part in the simulation of ritual slaughter halal – on a cardboard sheep figure and with artificial blood. The event took place before Eid al-Adha and evokes a lot of emotion.

What exactly is the video showing?

On video children surround the cardboard lamb. During the simulation of the "slaughter" from the model's neck, the red liquid is gushing, and present chant "Allahu Akbar". Workshops were supposed to bring the tradition closer victims animal in Islam, especially at a time when real animals are missing in Gaza due to ongoing conflict and destruction.

The organizers probably wanted to show their children elements of culture and religion despite difficult conditions. However, many viewers abroad perceived this as a disturbing preparation of the youngest for violence.

Eid al-Adha in the shadow of the crisis

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important holidays in Islam, commemorating Abraham's sacrifice. Traditionally, families sacrifice an animal (sheep, goats, cows) and share meat with the needy.

In the current situation in Gaza:

  • Sheep prices have risen dramatically – even to several thousand dollars apiece.
  • Many farms and farms were destroyed.
  • Real slaughters are rare, so you go for replacement forms.

For many families holiday became a symbol of what is missing – normality, food and joy of children.

Why is the video controversial?

Many commentators see in this not only religious education, but also an element of indoctrination. History Gaza already knows examples of children participating in military games or performances. This time it's about a ritual involving blood and death, even if it's symbolic.

On the other hand, Some people emphasize that in the traditions of many cultures children learn Christmas customs from a small age – whether at slaughter or at other ceremonies. The question is: where is the boundary between passing tradition and exposing the child's psyche to too strong stimuli?
