Police detained a 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of catching a huge, legendary sum from Lake Balaton in Warsaw Gocław. The fish, which had been swimming in the reservoir for about 20 years and was well known among the anglers, was over 170 centimeters long.
The incident occurred a few days ago, late May. Men rented a water bike and sailed to the middle of the lake, which is forbidden on this watershed. They fished the sum during the protection period of this species (lasting until May 31), and then threw it alive in the trunk of the car. According to witnesses, the fish struggled a long time.
The case quickly sparked great outrage on social media. Internet users have published recordings and pictures of men ignoring observers' protests and leaving with fish. Sum was treated by anglers as a local attraction and legend – in the past, when someone caught him, he was usually released back into the water.
Wednesday, June 3rd, Warsaw VII District Police Station reported the arrest of a 57-year-old. The man has been detained in Prague South and is currently being interrogated. The search continues for the second participant.

The police are gathering evidence. A man may be charged with illegal fishing of fish during a conservation period and in violation of water regulations.
The case sparked a stormy discussion on the Internet – from the harsh condemnation of "bussery" and "barbarity", to the voices that underestimated the incident. There are also a lot of comments urging the deportation of Ukrainians breaking the law in Poland.
