Shane Devon Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, was identified as a suspect in a downtown Manhattan shooting at 345 Park Avenue.
He killed five people, including a New York police officer, and six people were injured in a 44-story building that houses the headquarters of Blackstone and NFL.
Armed with an AR-type rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest, Tamura committed suicide on the 33rd floor after barricaded himself.
A car with state registration plates was found nearby Nevada and a rifle case linked to him. Tamura held a firearms permit issued in Las Vegas (June 2022).
The motive is not clear, it is likely related to his past as a Canadian football player or NFL headquarters.
New York City PD confirms the scene is secure, and the investigation continues.
The unsub turned out to be 27 year old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, which according to investigators aimed at the NFL office but by mistake went to another segment of the building. Tamura had a sports past – played American football – and a note was found next to the attacker's body in which he complained about the NFL and suggested that he was wrongly attributed neurological complications (CTE).
According to police reports, Tamura arrived in New York City by car, stopping on his way to several states. He opened fire in the lobby, later shooting also on the 33rd floor of the skyscraper to commit suicide at the end. The police found no evidence that the unsub had accomplices or prior ties to the crime scene.

Former President of the United States immediately spoke on the Truth Social platform, calling the perpetrator "mad madman". Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, particularly by emphasizing the victim that a New York City police officer suffered. He added that "My heart is with the families of four people killed, including the police officer who made the highest sacrifice. God bless New York City police and God bless New York City."
Political and social responses
Tragedy sparked a wide resonance – both politicians and ordinary New Yorkers expressed regret, but also frustration with continued violence with weapons in the US. Mayor Eric Adams announced increased security measures, and Senator Chuck Schumer called for more determined action to counter such tragedies. A mass shooting shall be considered to be any event in which at least four persons have been injured or killed, except for the perpetrator.
