Paulina Matysiak expelled from Together: Crisis on the Polish Left

In the Polish parliament, after the decision of the Board of the National Party, Paulina Matysiak was removed from the list of members. The MP, known for her active struggle to improve public transport and road safety, has become a symbol of internal conflicts in the left-wing environment. What led to this breakup, and what may be the consequences for the whole Left?

Party Statement: Non-cooperation and Ideological Differences

The Party Together announced its decision on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in a post on platform X (formerly Twitter). "The Board of State of Together today decided unanimously to remove Paulina Matysiak from the list of members Together. Paulina Matysiak had not agreed on her actions for a long time and did not cooperate with the party. Numerous attempts to incorporate it into the work of the Together and the Members' Circle have proved ineffective," the Communication states. The party stressed that in such a situation further cooperation is impossible, although thanking Matysiak for years of joint action. The key reason was the differences in the strategy: Together, it wants to be an alternative to the "PO-PiSu", and the Member's actions did not always take this into account.

The statement also mentions events a year ago when some politicians tried to "write Together into Tusk block". The party strongly rejected this approach, stressing its willingness to cooperate in the Sejm on transport issues but not within a single group.

Paulina Matysiak's reaction: "The party became sectarian"

Matysiak quickly responded to the party's decision with her own post on X. "In 2017, I joined Together because I believed that another policy was possible and it is possible to create a left-wing, not hermetic, left-wing policy in Poland. Today, in 2025, when I was excluded from this party, I am still convinced that we need a left with different viewpoints and different social environments, not one that is sectarian," she wrote. The MP assured that her work for the exclusion of transport, road safety and investment as CPK would continue as non-attached MPs. "From Kutna they will not expel me 😉" – she added with humor, thanking you for your support.

Previously, in an RMF FM interview dated November 3, 2025, Matysiak made it clear: "I will not leave the Party together, it is a clear statement from me. I've been creating this party for eight years, and I see no reason for anyone to force me to leave." The party's decision came despite these assurances.

Conflict background: Cooperation with the right and the scandal

The conflict has been growing for months. Matysiak was criticized inside together for her cooperation with PiS politicians, including on the Central Communication Port (CPK). In October 2025, an affair broke out when a Member debated an event organised by PiS politicians and had previously used the services of a lawyer associated with Ordo Iuris – an organization about conservative views.

The party lost patience, seeing in these actions a shift away from left-wing values. According to Onet, Matysiak "does not want to leave and does not want to be in the party" – is a summary of the situation from 6 days before being expelled. In November 2024 Matysiak was suspended in the party, which prevented her from running for authorities together. Publicist Rafał Woś called it "compulsive fear of otherness".

Media and X reactions: Division of opinions

The decision triggered a storm in the net. On the X post Together he collected over 5,000 sages, but also hundreds of comments. Patrick Spalinski ironic: "No one will interfere with walking together on Tusk marches anymore". Philip Zator accused the party of disposing of an active MP: "Beka of you, that you are disposing of the only person who truly does something."

Matysiak supporters, like Leonard IV of Mempospolita, praised her activity: "You removed the most active messenger". Critics, such as James of X, wrote: "All right, don't fuck with the PiSu." PiS politicians, like Jan Kanthak, commented: "The closer the elections, the closer the parties will be to Tusk".

Media widely reported: TVN24 and WP reported that this was the end of a long-standing conflict. Upday emphasized cooperation with the Law and Justice as a key reason.

What's next? Consequences for the Left and Matysiak

The expulsion of Matysiak weakens the Together, which still balances at the electoral threshold. A messenger as an unattached may seek alliances beyond the left, though she denies talks with the PiS. For the whole Left it is a signal of internal divisions – Together it wants to remain a "pure" alternative, but it loses active activists.

Sławomir Mentzen joked: "Together he does not want to be together with Matysiak". Is this the beginning of a major crisis? The election will show whether the left will unite or break up into factions.

Paulina Matysiak, however, remains optimistic: "My work continues. Let's stay in touch!" Its history shows how difficult it is to build an open left in polarized Poland.
