One of the most moving moments in Polish football in recent weeks.
Maja – the heroine of the record-breaking Łatwogang charity campaign “Diss na raka” – received a special reward for her fight and commitment. The girl fulfilled one of her biggest dreams and led Robert Lewandowski onto the pitch before the Poland national team match.
Shortly before the team walked out onto the pitch, Maja, wearing the white-and-red jersey with number 9, stood next to the captain of our national team. Lewandowski, smiling, greeted her warmly, and then they walked out together onto the pitch of the PGE Narodowy.
Photos from this moment quickly spread across the whole Polish internet. Maja could not hide her emotion and joy. “It was the most beautiful day of my life” – she later wrote on social media.
Background to the story
For many months Maja has been the face of the “Diss na raka” campaign, which raised over 115 million złoty to fight cancer in children. Her determination, positive energy and authenticity moved hundreds of thousands of Poles, including Robert Lewandowski himself, who repeatedly supported the campaign.
For Maja, who herself is struggling with illness or is close to the oncology topic, meeting her idol and having the chance to lead him onto the pitch was a symbolic culmination of many months of fighting.
Robert Lewandowski also appreciated this moment, taking photos together with Maja and wishing her good health and strength.
