In Gelsenkirchen, Germany, there was a spectacular break-in at Sparkasse, which resembles scenes from Hollywood sensational films. Unknown perpetrators hollowed the tunnel into the vault, entering through a multi-level parking lot at De-La-Chevalerie-Straße, then through the archive door, where they drilled a hole in the wall using a specialized drill. The burglars searched several thousand safety deposit boxes, stealing valuables worth up to EUR 30 million, which affected over 2,500 customers.
The event occurred at night from 27 to 28 December 2025 in the bank branch of Nienhofstraße in the Buer district. The first witnesses reported to the police, describing several men with large bags in the stairwell of the parking lot. Surveillance cameras registered a black Audi RS6 with stolen license plates from Hannover, whose masked perpetrators left the scene early on December 30. Earlier, on December 27, around 6:15 a.m., a fire alarm was triggered in the building – the police and fire department did not find any signs of fire, which is now part of the investigation.

The discovery of the break-in caused chaos: concerned customers were gathering in front of the bank, demanding information, which almost led to an escalation of the situation. Police secured the entrance and directed the victims to Sparkasse's website. The bank has launched a special telephone line where customers can report losses.
The investigation is conducted by a special committee that protects the tracks and analyses the recordings. Police call for witnesses: anyone who heard suspicious noises or noticed anything unusual in the area should contact German police. Were the perpetrators inspired by films like "Ocean’s Eleven"? This bold action shows that the reality sometimes surpasses fiction – the investigation continues, and the victims count on the quick recovery of stolen goods.
