A terrible accident at one of the main intersections in Płock. On Thursday, 28 May 2026, in the morning, a 12-year-old cyclist was hit by a truck. Despite the swift intervention of emergency services, the girl could not be saved.
The incident happened at the intersection of Piłsudski Avenue and Dworcowa Street. The 12-year-old was riding her bicycle along the designated bike lane. At the same time, the 54-year-old driver of a Daf truck was turning right and most likely did not notice the child.
The girl was struck with great force. An ambulance was called immediately. Paramedics took the unconscious 12-year-old to hospital, where doctors fought for her life for some time. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe and the child died.
The driver was sober
Police quickly established that the 54-year-old man was sober (the breathalyser test was negative) and held the required licence to drive a heavy goods vehicle. At the scene, an inspection was carried out, traces were secured, and photographic and planimetric documentation was prepared under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
Dworcowa Street was blocked for several hours, causing major traffic disruption.
The details of the accident are still being determined by investigators. For now, no charges have been brought against the truck driver – everything depends on the final results of the investigation and the opinions of experts.
This is another tragic death of a child on the road in Poland this year. The case has caused enormous sorrow and concern among the residents of Płock.
