The Polish film and theatre community mourned after announcing the death of Edward Linde-Lubasenko, a prominent actor and educator who left at the age of 86. Information about his departure was confirmed by his son, Olaf Lubashenko, publishing a touching farewell on Instagram: "Goodbye, Dad". The actor died while leaving for Morocco, although details of the circumstances have not yet been revealed by the family.
Edward Ryszard Linde-Lubasenko was born on 23 August 1939 in Białystok. His life was marked by a stormy family history – his mother Emilia Roszkikowska ran a store in Białystok, and his father Julian Linde, a Swedish German, left his family during World War II. Young Edward and his mother moved to Archangelsk, taking the name Lubashenko after the Soviet captain who helped them. It was only in adult life that he met his biological father, and in 1991 he added the member "Linde" to his name.
After his high school degree in Wrocław, he studied medicine, but left it for acting. He debuted in 1964, and his career included more than 60 years of artistic activity, until he announced his retirement in December 2025 during the programme "Good morning TVN". He was associated with theatres in Wrocław and Krakow, including the Old Helena Modrzejewski Theatre, where he played in performances directed by Jerzy Jarocki.
Linde-Lubaszenko has played roles in the history of Polish cinema in cult films by Władysław Pasikowski, such as "Psy" (1992), where he incarnates himself in Tadeusz Stopczyk, "Dosy 2. Last Blood" (1994) and "Dosy 3. In the Name of Principles" (2020). The spectators also remember him from "Krolla" (1991), "Young wolves" (1995), "Sztos" (1997), "Boys don't cry" (2000) or "Morning coyote" (2001). In television series, he appeared, among others, in "Stawka more than life", "M like love" and "Father Matthew". For his achievements, he received numerous awards, including the Golden Medal "Deserved Culture Gloria Artis" in 2024.
He was married four times, and from his marriage to Asja Lamtiugina he had Olaf's son, also an actor, and Beata Paluch's daughter, an actress. His family and friends emphasize his passion for football – he played in the Representation of Polish Artists.
The news of the actor's death quickly circulated social media. The X platform (formerly Twitter) featured numerous entries saying goodbye to the legend, including radio stations and fans, expressing sadness and gratitude for their contribution to Polish culture. Details of the funeral have not yet been given, but it is expected that it will be an event gathering the stars of Polish cinema.
Edward Linde-Lubasenko left behind a rich heritage, inspiring generations of actors and viewers. His departure is a great loss to Polish art.
