In the latest return on the international stage, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer clearly announced the date of the border for the recognition of the State of Palestine. This decision awakens huge emotions and has the chance to go back into history as a landmark moment in a decade-long conflict in the Middle East.

Keir Starmer stressed that United Kingdom will be ready to recognise Palestine as early as Septemberif Israel will not take "specific action" leading to the end of the war in Gaza. The Prime Minister made it clear: time is at the disadvantage of a two-state solution and dramatic pictures from Gaza require immediate world response.
Main points of British ultimatum
The withdrawal of Israel from the West Bank annexation plans.
Consent on ceasefire with Hamas and openness to political dialogue with Palestinians.
Enabling the UN to supply unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Total exclusion of Hamas' participation in future Gaza governments.
If Israel will not meet these conditions until September, United Kingdom formally recognise Palestine's statehood at the UN General Assembly. Until now, British governments have postponed the decision to recognise the "appropriate moment", but never to indicate a specific term or explicit conditions.
The UK step follows a wider European trend: France already announced the recognition of Palestine in Septemberand similar declarations come from Malta or the Nordic countries. This signal that the Old Continent is exerting increasing pressure on the Jerusalem government.
Israel and the USA Response
Israel immediately identified the British announcement as "Hamas Prize", arguing that such action will only make it difficult to reach a truce and can encourage radicals to further attacks. Also from the U.S. you can hear reservations – although President Trump was supposed to say in Scotland that "doesn't mind" London position.
Recognition of Palestine – consequences and dilemmas
As experts point out, the recognition of Palestine's statehood by a close ally of Israel as Britain can:
Increase international pressure on Israel and force the return to peace negotiations.
To bring about a wave of similar decisions by the other EU countries and the global South.
Launch a new phase of humanitarian aid and reconstruction of Gaza.
The opponents of the decision, however, say that it is a purely political gesture that will not solve the problem – and even could hinder the conditions of the future compromise.
September 2025 can go to history as the moment when Europe's voice on Palestine sounded really strong.
