The latest fair in Krakow brought real price surprise. For traditional sausage in the bun you must pay as much as 50 PLN! What happens to prices at iconic Krakow fairs?
Krakow Fair – tradition versus wallet
Jarmarki in Kraków have been tempting with unique atmosphere and delicious tastes for years. Unfortunately, this year's prices have caused many visitors to take hold of their heads. PLN 50 per sausage bun became a symbol of galloping expensiveness and sparked a heated discussion on social media.
Prices – how much do festival delicacies cost?
Not only is sausage expensive. Check how much other popular delicacies cost at the Kraków Fair:
| Product | Price (evil) |
|---|---|
| Sausage in the bun | 50 |
| Classic burger | 50 |
| 10 dumplings with meat | 50 |
| Cake | 35-50 |
| Peas of bread with lard | 22 |
| Beetle or sourcing | 30 |
| Heat (200 ml) | 18 |
The prices of delicacies from year to year increase and more and more you can hear the opinions that the fair has become an attraction mainly for wealthy tourists, rather than city residents.
Why is it so expensive?
One reason for high prices is the rising costs of running a catering business – higher prices of products, energy and rents in the city center. Organizers explain that each exhibitor has been obliged to introduce at least one position in the "affordable price", but reality shows that such offers are difficult to find.
Does anyone benefit from the promotion?
Selected stands offer small discounts for the Krakow Charter holders – residents can pay about 15% less. Unfortunately, discounts rarely apply to the most popular foods or alcoholic beverages.
Reactions of residents and tourists
On the Internet, hundreds of comments show discontent with astronomical rates. Many people believe that the fair has ceased to be a Krakowian friendly place and has become a commercial attraction aimed at tourists:
- "Prices from outer space. This is not a fair for the villagers!"
- "$50 for sausage? I prefer home dinner."
- "Only a tourist will be tempted and his wallet cries!"
There are also jokes that for such prices the traditional street food in Krakow is equal to the cost of exquisite restaurants.
Is it worth going to the fair?
Despite the pricey fever, the fair still attracts many visitors. The unique atmosphere, the possibility of meeting craftsmen and beautiful decorations make walking in the Main Market Square an unforgettable experience – though heavily burdening the wallet.
What's next with the prices at the Krakow fairs?
Will prices at the fairs in Krakow stop at the current level, or will prices increase? It is worth to follow the next editions and be prepared for any surprises. So far, we'll be paying for a cult sausage in a bun like a proper lunch in the city center.
