In a small village near Suwałki Police discovered 47-year-old twins – Marzena and Janusz – whose neighbors had not seen since the mid-1990s. Parents explained their absence for decades: the daughter allegedly joined a monastery in Sejny and the son worked abroad. The case came to light only after his father died in January 2026.
Normal childhood, then sudden disappearance
Marzena and Janusz graduated from primary school in the mid-1990s. Residents remember them as ordinary children from the area – playing in the yard, participating in local events. There was no indication of intellectual disability. After elementary school, siblings stopped being seen. Parents consistently told their neighbors reliable stories about leaving those times.
Disputable explanations after Father’s death
The breakthrough came after the 79-year-old father's funeral in January 2026. None children It didn't show up. The mother passed on different versions to her neighbors: once that they did not get free work, another time – that they did not make it back from abroad. Later she even claimed that they were at prayer in the chapel, though no one saw them. These discrepancies have sparked rumors and anonymous reports to the police.
At the end of May, officers entered the property. The siblings were transported to a psychiatric hospital in Suwałki, where they remain under the care of doctors. The first official notice just came in from the hospital.
What do the neighbors say?

- He did all the work at the gate.
Residents admit that some of the family's behavior seemed strange but did not raise enough suspicions. Today many are shocked: "In life I will not be calm anymore. We lived next door, and there could be someone crying for help."
Additionally, there was another sister in the family, who was the only one who functioned normally in the community – she worked as a teacher in a nearby school. It is not known how much she knew about her sibling situation.
Current state of investigation
Public Prosecutor’s Office Suwałki District is conducting mental abuse proceedings against people with disabilities due to their health condition. Officers inspected the house and farm buildings. Bye. No one's been charged.. Investigators verify the relations of residents and stress that the matter is at an early stage – it is not yet certain about the exact duration of isolation or its character.
The siblings are now safe and under the care of specialists. Public Prosecutor’s Office calls for abstinence in assessments until all evidence is collected.
