In 2019 history Cecile Eledge ran media All over the world. A 61-year-old woman from Nebraska decided to become a surrogate for her gay son and his husband. She gave birth to a healthy daughter – her biological granddaughter.
How did it start?
Matthew Eledge and his husband Elliot Dougherty dreamed of having a baby. The search for surrogates was not easy, so Mother Matthew threw the idea, "What if I did?" Initially, everyone laughed, but it soon turned out to be a viable option. Cecile was in excellent health form – doctors said she had a body of a 40-year-old.
Medical process step by step

The woman underwent hormonal therapy and was reported pregnant under strict medical supervision. On March 25, 2019, she gave birth to a naturally healthy girl – Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge, weighing about 2.7 kg.
Why is that so special?
History Cecile shows how far parental love can reach. "I never hesitated. It was a natural instinct," she said in interviews.
In the context of the laws and ethics of surrogacy in Poland, the topic is controversial. In many countries, the procedure is strictly regulated, and the cases of grandmother surrogates are rare, but they increasingly appear in couples' rights discussions LGBT+ and access to modern reproductive medicine.
Cecile emphasizes that it was a gift for his son and that he does not plan to repeat such experience.
