The fire completely absorbed the main scene of the iconic Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. Two days before the event, fans of electronic music all over the world died in uncertainty – what about the great festival of music?
Tomorrowland – the uncertain future after the big fire
Wednesday, July 16, a fire occurred at the Tomorrowland Festival in Boom, Belgium, which completely destroyed one of the world's most recognizable electronic music scenes. The fire broke out just before the event, which was to attract about 400,000 fans from around the world.
Damage scale and firefighting action
The firefighting operation lasted several hours – numerous fire brigades were taken down. Above the area there was thick black smoke visible from many kilometers. Residents were asked to close windows for safety.
- Over 1,000 people worked on site during the fire – none of them were injured
- According to witnesses, the fire appeared near the left side of the scene and immediately spread
- The sound of fireworks exploding was heard
What could have caused the fire?
The case raises many questions. Despite the lack of official communications, there are many indications of a failure of pyrotechnic installations or accidental fireworks tests. Such special effects are an integral part of the scenery of Tomorrowland.
Consequences for the festival and industry
It is not yet known whether the organizers will be able to rebuild the scene before the weekend. The main stage's New Year's Eve has been a showcase not only of Tomorrowland but also of the whole festival industry. Its destruction is not only a gigantic logistical problem, but also a huge image blow.
Tomorrowland – more than the festival
Tomorrowland is a worldwide phenomenon – a symbol of creativity, spectacular spectacles and the unification of people across borders during the festival of music. The fire two days before the party is a test for organizers.
