59-year-old Geoffrey Wall of Barrie, Ontario for nearly 17 years piloted Air Canada passenger aircraft as captain, without having the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). The man was detained by Peel Regional Police after a multi-month investigation.
According to Wall police, he began working in Air Canada in 1998. He was promoted to captain in 2009, requiring a full ATPL. However, it turned out that the man flew with a commercial pilot license valid only, and the required ATPL document was falsified.
For over 16 years, Wall piloted hundreds of domestic and international flights, carrying thousands of passengers. The case did not come to light until 2025 during a routine inspection of Transportation Canada.

The "Project Icarus" investigation lasted several months. Officers established that Wall had misled both the airline and the aviation oversight authorities for years. The man was detained on June 1, 2026. He was accused of fraud and document fraud.
Air Canada in an official statement reported that immediately after the finding of the irregularity she had fired the pilot and carried out an audit of all crews. The line emphasizes that "passenger safety has never been compromised" because all pilots undergo regular training and simulators every six months.

Geoffrey Wall is to stand trial on June 29 at Brampton. He's facing imprisonment. It is not yet known whether during his "careers" there have been any incidents related to the lack of adequate powers.
