American actor James Ransone, known for his roles in the series "The Wire" and horror films such as "Sinister" and "To: Chapter 2", died at 46. The tragedy occurred in Los Angeles, and according to preliminary findings, the cause of death was suicide.
James Ransone was born on June 2, 1979 in Baltimore, Maryland. He began his acting career in the early 2000s, gaining recognition thanks to the role of Chester "Ziggy" Sobotka in the second season of the iconic HBO series "The Wire" (2003). Ziggy's character, the chaotic and rebellious son of a port unionist, brought him the recognition of critics and fans for the authentic devotion of character complexity from the working Baltimore environment.
In subsequent years Ransone appeared in numerous film and television productions. He gained special popularity in the horror genre, where he starred in the film "Sinister" (2012) alongside Ethan Hawke, as well as in the sequel to "Sinister 2" (2015). One of his most memorable roles was the adult Eddie Kaspbrac in "To: Chapter 2" (2019), the adaptation of Stephen King's novel, where he impersonated a member of the Loser Club fighting demon clown Pennywise. The actor also collaborated with directors such as Spike Lee in "Oldboy" (2013) or in the series "Treme" (2010-2013), where he again showed his talent to portray complex, often self-destructive characters.
The actor died on December 21, 2025 in Los Angeles. According to a report from the Los Angeles County coroner's office, Ransone committed suicide by hanging in a shed on his property. Los Angeles PD confirmed that no sign of third party involvement was found, and the case is being treated as suicide. Information on death was made public shortly after the event.
