Al Waleed was born in April 1990 as the son of Prince Khaled bin Talala and Princess Reemy bint Talal, two prominent members of the Saudi royal family. He fell into a coma in 2005 after a major car accident in London, where he attended military school. As a result of the collision, he suffered a hemorrhage into the brain and has since remained under constant medical care, not waking up from a state of unconsciousness despite occasional small movements giving the family temporary hopes.
During the accident, he was the one driving the car, and two friends traveled with him, who came out of the accident almost unscathed; Al Waleed himself was thrown out of the vehicle through the roof window.
Faith to the End
Over the years, the fate of the Sleeping Prince has been followed by millions in the Middle East and beyond. The family long refused to decide to separate him from life support, emphasizing their attachment to religion and thus claiming that the moment of death and life belonged to God.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, repeatedly emphasized that he did not intend to give up his son’s care, saying: "Who am I to take his life? If God wanted him to die, he would have done it without my help or the help of a doctor."
In recent years, there has also been false information about the alleged awakening of the Prince, which has been unequivocally demented. Films and pictures showed him connected to medical devices, and recordings suggesting waking up were for people other than Al Waleed himself.
